The Dangers of 5G

5G is a revolutionary new technology with speeds ranging from 50mb/s to over 1gb/s. Most people will have access to mid-band 5G which will deliver speeds from 100-400 mb/s. This sounds great and all but the fact is, we don't know enough about 5G.

5G is short for 5th Generation, which is better than 4G which is better than 3G and so on. Each generation gets leaps and bounds faster than the previous generation. With 5G the wavelengths are shorter, this allows for faster speeds but greatly reduced range and power. Studies have shown that things like buildings, trees or even rain in between your 5G phone, and the nodes (the transmitters of the cellular data) can often greatly reduce speeds or cancel them out all together.

To fix this problem, cellular providers will have to place these nodes very frequently and have them transmit with insane amounts of power. This is where the public gets weary of these plans. The idea behind this is that when moving through city blocks when objects block the direct transmission between a 5G phone and the 5G nodes, it will switch to different nodes that are either stronger or have less interference. This means around every street corner there will be a highly powered node that will transmit high frequency waves. That is why the public and government is fearful. While there most likely isn't a health risk, after all we are exposed to even more high frequency waves every day like satellites, we should still take a little extra time to look for unforeseen dangers not only of humans but other organisms alike. We can and should hold off on 5G till more developed testing is done and we are as positive as we could possibly be that it does not present any health concerns.

  1. Good summary of 5G. I wonder if you knew all of this information before or if you had to research some of it?

Also, while 5G is just now coming to our area, are there parts of the world that have had 5G for a while? Have they experienced any problems?

    1. I have previously watched and read quite a bit about 5G technology, for the past few years as it was being developed. 5G has been quite popular in China and Korea since earlier this year. I'm not sure if they have experienced any problems other than the ones I stated in the article.
